Thorn-Clarke: William Randell Shiraz
William Randell Shiraz was first produced in 1998, a ‘flagship’ for the winery. Care from the vineyard to the bottle is never compromised. Named after our ancestor William Randell, this wine is a tribute to his courage and determination, his forethought and vision. As a pioneer in this Great Southern Land he started out by building and captaining the first paddle steamer on the River Murray in 1853.
William Randell is a wine that highlights what the best parcels of fruit sourced entirely from the Thorn-Clarke estate vineyards are capable of producing, the wine is not produced every vintage and only in years we deem to be the ‘better’ vintages. Production is very limited and years in which William Randell Shiraz is produced it only accounts for 1-2% of Thorn-Clarke wine produced. The wine has been recognized with very high scores from the likes of James Halliday in Australia and internationally a Trophy win for ‘Best Australian Shiraz’ at the 2013 International Wine Challenge was a highlight.
