Chateau Tanunda: The Chateau 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz

Chateau TanundaThe grapes for the 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz come from just two small vineyards in Eden Valley and Nuriootpa. These Barossa Centenarian Vines, noted for their low yields and intensity of flavour, were planted more than one hundred years ago – around the same time as construction of the Château and at a time when dry-farming techniques demanded careful site selection. These precious vines have truly withstood the test of time. The inaugural vintage was the 2005.

The Chateau itself, after which the wine is named, has undergone a remarkable rebirth and restoration since 1998 when it was unoccupied and under threat of demolition. This massive, iconic stone and brick building was South Australia’s second-largest building when it was built in 1890, second to Elder Smith’s Port Adelaide wool store, and was part-funded by 200 Barossa Valley grape grower shareholders.
