2018 Santos Tour Down Under
All the cycling action of the Santos Tour Down Under will return to the Barossa on Tuesday, 16 January 2018 with Stage 1 shining a light on the Southern Barossa.
Now in its 20th year, Stage One will see cyclists begin the 145km leg in the historic Port Adelaide before making their way to the Southern Barossa via Williamstown, prior to the stage finish in Lyndoch.
The Barossa provides the perfect backdrop for the internationally acclaimed cycling tour, which has grown to become the biggest cycling event outside of Europe.
Stage One, will see cyclists will loop around Lyndoch, Cockatoo Valley and Williamstown three times, providing spectators, supporters and avid cycling fans numerous opportunities to get up close to all the action with some great viewing vantage points along the way.
If you’re travelling to the region, there’s so many opportunities to embrace the race and be part of the cycling community. Why not stay for a few days and explore the Barossa while you’re here, there’s always plenty to see and do including a special family community event on Monday 17 January. The Lyndoch Village Green will come alive with the ‘Wheels on the Green’ event with lots of entertainment and activities for the entire family. It’s a great pre-cursor to the big race the next day.
Or if you’re keen to explore the Barossa by Bike, the region boasts a high-quality sealed cycling and walking network extending 40km from Angaston to Gawler via the three main townships of Nuriootpa, Tanunda and Lyndoch. There are many routes by bike between Adelaide and the Barossa – quick and direct routes, the slow way via some of our famous wineries, by train to Gawler and via the Adelaide Hills.
The 2018 Santos Tour Down Under will be held for Saturday 13 January until Sunday 21 January.
