Barossa Band Festival
25 October 2014, 11:00am-10:00pm
Location: Murray Street Tanunda, SA 5352
The Barossa Band Festival will again host its annual Festival on Saturday October 25th 2014 at Tanunda.
This historic Festival (formerly the Tanunda Band Competitions) had its humble beginnings in 1910 for Brass Bands. Bands marched and played to over 1000 people in the 1950’s and 1960’s, playing music of that era then. Over the years, some Bands have changed and grown to ensure longevity, and changed from Brass to Concert Bands with the addition of woodwind performers. As these bands have changed , so too has the Festival. Whilst the historical days of the “set test pieces” are remembered , the Festival today promotes a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere with Bands playing music that they have chosen.
The Festivities commence with local students performing at the Tanunda Rotunda. Also held in the street are the Pipe Band Competitions – a spectacle on it’s own. In the afternoon the Famous Tanunda Street Parade is featured. This parade is unique as it is almost certainly one of the oldest Street Parades held a country town. This showcases the abilities of Bands to march in unison whilst play entertaining music and being judged.
The Evening concert is the highlight of the day. Held in the Tanunda Show Hall, a short walk from the main street, this concert will be bright, lively and above all entertaining. This is most certainly a music lovers night. Patrons are able to sit comfortably at tables and can BYO. Catering facilities are provided for the evening. Ample parking for buses and cars is available and free. So why not come to the Barossa for the day or stay a short while and enjoy the hospitality?
This Festival is organised by a group of 8 people of whom 6 are involved in the local Barossa Bands and 3 have each given in excess of 50yrs service their respective band
