Fringe in Barossa: Dorothy Parkers Sweet Release of Death
6 - 8 March 2014, 8:00pm-10:00pm
Location: Old Union Chapel, 21 Penrice Rd, Angaston SA
Poet. Alcoholic. Aspiring corpse. Dorothy Parker is many things. And when the whole of 1920's New York knows you as the funniest woman around, the pressure to write a witty suicide note is unbearable. Add some songs, a shady past, plenty of gin and a vendetta against Winnie-The-Pooh and you've got yourself a party with Parker.
After a sell-out season at the 2013 Adelaide Fringe, Dorothy Parker's Sweet Release of Death has been described by the critics as "superb", "magnificent" and "incredibly clever". Based on the life of the famous writer, the show is filled with original quotes from Parker herself, interspersed with quips that "Dorothy Parker would have been proud to call her own" (GlamAdelaide, 2013). Don't miss the chance to see Dorothy, the woman with the sharpest tongue and the bluntest insults.
Lucy Gransbury writes, acts and directs her own show. Talented and gorgeous, she is Adelaide born and bred, she moved to Melbourne in 2006 to further her career in acting and comedy. She comes to the Barossa fringe. Her blog recently defending Adelaide’s cultural identity went viral gathering over 100,000 tweets in 3 days. Her uncle Bill won first prize on Bert Newton’s new faces in 1985 and is the compere for her show at the Old Union Chapel in Angaston, Barossa’s special place for special occasions.
