2014 Santos Tour Down Under "Put on a show for the Santos Roadshow"
11 January 2014
A competition to encourage communities, landowners and businesses to decorate regional roadsides will be a new initiative for the 2014 Santos Tour Down Under. “Creative roadside displays along the race route have been a feature of the Santos Tour Down Under for many years,” said Santos Spokesperson: Chris Marks, Senior Public Affairs Advisor.
“We are hoping our new competition, called the Santos Roadshow, will encourage people to participate in this fun community activity.” Santos is offering over $4000 for the Santos Roadshow.
Prizes will be awarded for the best entrant per stage, judged by a panel who will visit each entry. There will also be a “People’s Pick” award where the general public can vote on their favourite entry for each stage on the Santos Facebook site. All online voters will have a chance to win a night’s accommodation at the Hilton Adelaide including breakfast and parking.
An overall winner will be chosen by judges votes at the end of the race stages and online voters will also get to choose their favourite entry from the five stage winners. The roadshow displays can be constructed of any material, with the only criteria being that they need to reflect the themes of either cycling or natural energy and include either a Santos corflute sign or Santos bunting which can be collected from participating host councils.
The Santos Best Dressed Town competition will continue as it has in previous years. The Santos Roadshow is specifically for roadsides and properties outside of township boundaries. 2014 celebrates Santos’ fifth year as naming rights sponsor of this international event. Last year the Santos Tour Down Under attracted more than 760,000 spectators and received over 332 hours of national and international television coverage.

They will also need to comply with any Council guidelines and not restrict any access to roads or cause issues with visibility.
