Barossa Fun Run to support Indigenous Marathon Project
...Seppeltsfield Road Fun Run & Family Day, Sun 8 Sep 2013
On Sunday 8 September, Seppeltsfield Road Business Alliance will host the Seppeltsfield Road Fun Run and Family Day, as a fundraiser for the Indigenous Marathon Project. Runners (and walkers) will commence at Seppeltsfield Winery, winding their way through an avenue of palms and enjoying breathtaking views across rolling Barossa vineyards. The 5.5 kilometre fun run is a celebration of fitness and healthy living, and participant’s entrance fees will be donated to support an indigenous runner to participate in the New York Marathon. The Seppeltsfield Road Fun Run will finish at Whistler Wines with a free Family Fun Day.
The Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) is a health promotion charity that annually selects, trains and takes a group of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander athletes to compete in the New York Marathon. IMP aims to promote healthy and active lifestyles throughout indigenous communities around the nation, through the inspiration of Indigenous role models. Luke McKenzie will be present at the Fun Run. Luke is a Member of the 2013 IMP Squad and was named NAIDOC SA Male Sportsperson of the Year 2013.
Greenock resident Jo Weaver is a keen follower and supporter of IMP, and is passionate about the IMP cause and its vision. This year, Jo has made it a personal goal to raise $5,000 for the IMP project, which would fund an individual indigenous runner to the New York Marathon. Jo is the coordinator of the Seppeltsfield Road Fun Run, and keen to see as many Barossa residents participate as possible. ‘The IMP 2013 Squad is an amazing group of young men and women. Supporting our fun run and family day is a great way to show your support for these athletes and will help them achieve ‘the dream’ of running the New York Marathon and inspiring others to be healthy and happy. I have seen firsthand how the IMP journey is already impacting on the athletes and their Communities and it is truly inspirational’.
Individuals and families will love the fun run – you can run, walk and even push a stroller (but no skateboards or bicycle please!) The fun day at Whistler Wines will offer fantastic activities for the entire family – delicious food and wine, music by Singer/Songwriter Glenn Skuthorpe and local favourites The Valley Cats, indigenous craft activities for kids and SRBA Mystery stall. A silent auction to raise funds for IMP will feature some items of indigenous art.
The Seppeltsfield Road Fun Run and Family Day are proudly sponsored by Light Council and the Seppeltsfield Road Business Alliance. Registration for the Fun Run can be made online at http://www.eventbrite.com.au/event/7468341009 or at Whistler Wines and Seppeltsfield Winery.
