Mount Pleasant Twilight Farmers Market draws a large crowd
15 January 2013
Christmas food shoppers were in for a treat when they descended on the Twilight Mount Pleasant Farmers Market held at the showground on Friday, with perfect weather and a large number of stallholders. The anticipated crowd of over 1000 people were well satisfied with the large selection of local produce on offer with the 46 stallholders in attendance at market.
Highlight of the night was Father Christmas arriving on the Mount Pleasant CFS truck. He was quickly surrounded by children eager for a glimpse of the red suited, white bearded man. Healthy food gifts from Santa proved a big hit with children and parents alike, all produce donated very generously by stallholders. The OPAL Fender Blender entertained the children as well, with children being able to ride for their healthy fruit smoothie on the Fender Blender, a bicycle, equipped to, when pedalled to blend smoothies.
Stallholder Joy Schulz from DJ Citrus said “ We had a very busy night and were very happy with the crowd numbers, the customers were from near and far, some new to the market and lots of our regulars as well.
The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market boasts over 80% local producers as their regular stallholders. The market has been bringing a much needed economic boost to the local and surrounding areas with many businesses in Mount Pleasant reporting a surge in business when the market is on.
Market Manager, Genevieve Hebart says ”The MPFM Management Committee Inc. are very pleased with the market growth as the member numbers are now approaching 450, with hopes that the target figure of 500 members will be reached before our first birthday in February 2013”.
