Simon Bryant to help celebrate the Mount Pleasant Farmers Markets 1st birthday.
10 January 2013
The first Saturday in February will herald a milestone for the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market with the celebration of one year of successful operation.
This community owned and operated weekly food market is welcoming back celebrity chef Simon Bryant from the ABC’s popular series “The Cook and the Chef”. Simon will be creating tasty dishes with market produce as part of the birthday celebrations. Market Manager, Genevieve Hebart says “The market is thrilled to have Simon back. Simon is an innovative chef and advocate for fresh locally produced fruit and vegetables, and farmers markets.”
Genevieve says “The market has enjoyed much success in its first year of operation, with close to 500 market members; over 50 registered stallholders; over $2000 raised through its on-site parking donation program and given to other community organisations such as the local primary school, Lions Club, and Hospital; and many Stallholders have reported that their businesses have flourished under the farmers market banner”.
Simon Bryant is one of the many guests that the market has had in the last 12 months, along with the founder of Trees for Life and author Lolo Houbien, organics expert Tim Marshall, authors Peter Taubert (Your Health and Food Additives), Peter Allan ( Health Overhaul – 7 essential steps to better well-being), Community Foodie Angie Roesler, Masterchef qualifier Riognach Howard and well known local identity Joyce Fendler just to name a few.
“Stallholder registrations have been steadily increasing for the day so market customers can expect a great turnout and excellent produce variety,” says Genevieve.
The market is also involved with celebrating the month of February as Fruit & Vegetable month, with a special appearance by the larger than life celebrity “The Veggie Man” as part of the birthday celebrations. Assistant Manager, Terese Reeves says, “The kids will be able to meet the Veggie man and participate in a fresh fruit & vegetable trail that will be held throughout the morning. Face painting and live music are also available”.
Managed by a local not-for-profit Incorporated community group, the Market is proud to provide local employment, support sustainable farming, and provide an affordable local food shopping experience for locals and visitors to the region. All market profits are used to keep the market running and support other local community groups and initiatives.
The market is open every Saturday from 8am -12 noon at the Mount Pleasant Showground.
