Barossa Ingredients

Some places lend themselves to a simple, overall impression. Others can be more challenging to capture.

The Barossa - while certainly famed for its European heritage and its legendary wines - is hard to put into a single frame. Wine, food, history and generations certainly all play their part, but this is more than a rumpled quilt of vineyards that slope down from the flanks of a very old range of hills.

There is a list of Barossa features - or ‘ingredients’, perhaps - that resists easy summary, and instead gently invites you to revisit your opinion each time you choose to share it. Here we explore some of those ingredients that make-up an evolving story of people, place and flavour.

We like to think of it as a recipe book of Barossa experiences. A comfortable and familiar review that you can take off the shelf when opportunity presents or reflection demands - a reference that will serve to inspire as well as to help us remember.

Why are these ingredients so important? Because the story of food eaten over the years is one of love, relationships, politics, finance and community. It is the very stuff of life.
