Bethany Wines: GR Shiraz
The Schrapel Family’s (7th Generation Barossa) Bethany GR Shiraz was first released in 1992 and has established its reputation as a benchmark in Barossa Shiraz.
The current release 2008 GR is the 12th release. The GR Shiraz is made only from the best of vintages.
It is picked from a small vineyard of less than 5 hectares from 60 to 80 year old vines, on classic Barossa red brown earths overlaying limestone. The vines produce small berries, which provide maximum flavour and colour and the breezes on the foothills ensure gradual ripening and fine tannins.
After two years in French oak, each barrel is tasted and selected for bottling, then cellared before being released. The wine displays aromas of blackberries and plums, overlayed with hints of spice, pepper, fine tannins and subtle oak complexity.
