The Barossa Generations Lunch, organised by Barossa Grape & Wine Association (BGWA) with the support of volunteers, was held last Friday in the Tanunda Show Hall. Shared with a sell-out crowd of more than 300 guests, the Generations Lunch celebrates the camaraderie of wine grape growers, wine makers, food producers and the broader Barossa community.
MC’d by local Maz McGann, lunch guests were treated to a line-up of speakers, international and local, all speaking on the theme of “Barossa Heritage – now and into the future” with the intention of challenging everyone as to how the Barossa heritage can be used as an innovation point for themselves, their businesses and the Barossa community as a whole.
Guest speaker Professor Emeritus, Jean-Alain Heraud, University of Strasbourg (France) spoke of the importance of genuine heritage and history in sustainable regional development and gave the community the guiding principle of “Ideas plus relevance equals creativity” to shape innovation in the Barossa.
Professor Heraud was followed by Stephanie Johnston who gave a brief overview of the Mount Lofty Ranges World Heritage Bid, which links the unique heritage of the Mount Lofty Ranges with sustainable development for the future.
The Barons of Barossa, celebrating their 40 year anniversary, showed how Professor Heraud’s principle works in launching the Barossa Grand Cellar with Stephen Henschke, James Lindner and Stefan Ahrens giving brief highlights of the last 40 years of the Barons of Barossa and of the visionary development of the Grand Cellar.
Maz McGann said “The Barossa Generations Lunch certainly has become a great celebration of all things Barossa with this year’s speakers focusing on heritage and innovation. It is one of my favourite events on the Barossa events calendar bringing together the wine industry and the broader community to celebrate. A highlight this year was the Barossa Barons presentation - acknowledging 40 years of service to the region.”
The lunch was organised by a committee led by Annemaree Clementson and Ashleigh Fox from BGWA. “Organising the lunch is a team effort,” said Annemaree. “BGWA would like to thank committee members; Sal Johnson, Susan Papps, Linda Parbs, Natalie Allen and Jess Ruciack plus all the other volunteers for the time and effort they put into creating the Generations Lunch. It couldn’t happen without them.”
This year the lunch guests also supported the “Kind Hearted Kitchen”, with cash donations of $1,300. Kind Hearted Kitchen is a local charity that makes nourishing meals from ingredients gathered from local gardens, pantries and community donations for people in need in the Barossa region.
