Barossa Gourmet Weekend


A new winter festival, celebrating Barossa food as the hero, will replace Barossa Gourmet Weekend in 2020. While yet to have an official name, the three-day event (August 14-16) will centre around the very evocative themes of food, fire, warmth and winter.

Tourism Barossa’s Regional Tourism Manager, Cathy Wills, said the decision to retire the Barossa Gourmet Weekend brand was made through consultation with Tourism Barossa Board and key stakeholders.

“We have spent time considering opportunities in 2020 and beyond and are extremely excited about the evolution of Barossa Gourmet Weekend,” said Cathy.

“This is our chance to evolve and deliver an exciting, innovative event concept that truly celebrates our region’s extraordinary food culture.

“We have been defining how we can best position the Barossa and our extraordinary food culture in a new and innovative manner, and collectively with stakeholders in the region we have envisioned this new event model.

“We are confident the new event format will be well supported by locals, as well as visitors from intrastate, interstate and overseas. The new Festival will act as a catalyst, encouraging people to ‘take another look at the Barossa’ because as a region we are constantly changing, improving and evolving.

“We would like to express gratitude to every venue and to the festival-goers who have supported Barossa Gourmet Weekend for more than three decades. And we look forward to celebrating with you on the third weekend in August.”

In the meantime, work will continue with stakeholders and venues to finesse the creative approach to the new festival and identify new offerings to showcase the region’s distinct culinary traditions and approach to food.
