Anlaby

Anlaby is one of Australia’s great homesteads and one of the first grand rural properties of South Australia. Settled in 1839 when a flock of 5,000 sheep were walked 1,200 km from Sydney. Anlaby was once one of the most famous pastoral properties in the nation.

The property is being restored to breathe life into the original buildings and gardens that once echoed to the sounds of a prosperous and thriving rural station and community. Explore the Folly and the 10 acre gardens including the 600 roses in the formal rose garden.

Tours of the Anlaby House and Garden are available for groups of 10 or more by prior appointment.  Tours include the principal rooms of the house, servants work rooms, kitchen, scullery and butler’s pantry. At the end of the house tour you will have a strong sense of how the family and servants lived and worked.

Anlaby is the home of the oldest merino sheep stud in Australia and you are bound to see some of our merino sheep as they graze in the paddocks.

Visit us for a guided tour, stay in one of our self-contained cottages or host a unique function or wedding.
