The Market is always buzzing with visitors and locals, it’s the place where you will find the freshest local produce and great breakfast. Seasonal fruit and veg; ethical meats; free-range eggs; freshly baked artisan breads and sweet treats; condiments, sauces and olive oils; and even tea, beer and gin! I love to purchase direct from the makers themselves, supporting the farms and homes of the Barossa.
After a quick zip round to get my faves (Eleni’s focaccia, Gully Gardens dried apricots, Barossa Hill Butchers, Kurianda pear chutney, Steinys Mettwurst just to name a few), the kids and I will head to the breakfast bar. The menu changes all the time, but I can’t go past a delicious breakfast burger, freshly squeezed OJ and a hot Bean Addiction coffee. Afterwards the kids will usually talk me into buying them a Barossa Valley Icecream or a Browns Barossa gourmet donut while we chat with locals, listen to local buskers and soak up the atmosphere. We just can’t resist!
After the market we head into Angaston Main street. My daughter and I can’t go past The Vintage Wardrobe, without popping in to see what treasures we may find, and Lola & Lilly, where you are guaranteed to find something gorgeous. While my daughter and I enjoy a little retail therapy and stroll along the street, hubby and my son will head to Casa Carboni for another coffee and hot chocolate and pick up supplies next door from The Barossa Valley Cheese Company before heading across the road to the Angaston Playground.
We then head home to share a delicious picnic platter of produce we picked up at the market on our back verandah overlooking our beautiful estate vineyard. After a busy morning and with our bellies full, we head out to Kaiserstuhl Conservation park for a brisk bushwalk. The 2km Stringybark loop is perfect for kids and we enjoy taking in the flora and fauna and fresh air. You are guaranteed to spot a kangaroo or two.
After a busy day with the kids, it’s time for the babysitter to arrive and we meet friends that we haven’t seen for months at Musque Food Wine. Enjoying a laugh over delicious food and wine. I indulge with a beautiful glass of their French champagne on pour (it changes monthly), and we share a couple of tapas outside and catch the last rays of sunshine before heading to our favorite restaurant FermentAsian. Make sure you book, as this place is incredible. Chef and owner, Tuoi Do creates the most amazing contemporary Vietnamese and Southeast Asian cuisine. We always opt for the chefs tasting menu which changes upon seasonality and never disappoints. The wine list is like none other and should be given to the best decision maker of the group with hundreds of wines to choose from!
If we’re not too tired and full, we might head across the road to Z Wines wine bar for a nightcap, soaking up the local musical entertainment in their comfy lounges before we head home to bed.
What a day, I can’t wait!
