My Barossa Day #6 - Life In The Barossa Is Good!

My Barossa Day calls for an early start – because why waste time?!

My husband and I stop by Fleur Social for a coffee and bagel. I check out some of the unique blooms they have in stock until Ryan delivers our first coffee for the morning. After eating the delicious bagel, we order a coffee to go - we cannot survive on one alone! 

Then we head up to Kaiser Stuhl for a walk through the bush and hang out with the local kangaroos that seem pretty relaxed with passers-by. On the way back into Barossa, we stop in at Rehn Bier in Tanunda for a couple of refreshing beer-verages. Stepping into their “game room”, Robyn and Brenton are always keen for a yarn over a frothy beer - meters away from the brewhouse. 

We set out for a through to Nuriootpa and stop in at First Drop Wines to taste a delicious range of wines. After finding the wine that best suits us, Paris pours us a glass each to enjoy with a few plates of tapas, delicious cured meats and fresh cheeses - the perfect light lunch before we continue on our journey. From here we’re ready to settle in for another tasting.  

Heading to Hayes Family Wines, we visit a small family run cellar door and are given a warm greeting from the dogs - what a hard life they have! We are also greeted by Vanessa who chats with us as if we’re old mates. They have a delicious range of wines with fresh whites, organic projects, bright reds and deep traditional shiraz. Andrew, the winemaker (and Vanessa’s husband), pops his head in the tasting room and takes us over for a sneak peak at the winery. Losing track of time, we realise we have time for one last stop and maybe an early dinner.

Literally up the hill and around the corner from Hayes Family Wines is the perfect place to take in the last rays of the day – Three75 Bar & Kitchen. 

We find a cheeky bottle of wine on the list and take a seat in front of the immense window, providing us with first class views of the sunset. With a wine in hand, and before we make any decisions on which amazing burger we order (because we want them all), we wander outside. On the lawn in front of the neighbouring vineyard are kangaroos having a nibble. Not overly concerned with the paparazzi watching them, they go about their business. We return to our table inside and order away. The food is “salivatingly good” – we want to order more, but know we would never fit it in. With Appellation, one of the iconic high end restaurants of Barossa situated next door, Three75 Bar & Kitchen definitely brings the goods for a casual, but classy end to our day. A taxi home and a schluck of tawny to end the night on the sofa. 

Life in the Barossa is good!
